Hmm, I didn't say there isn't a 'problem'. I just
don't believe persecuting a group of people with the
law because of their lifestyle is going to solve 'the
problem'. I had some Gypsies in my class at school
when I was about 13/14. They couldn't read or write,
got the piss taken a lot, always in fights. But when
you talked to them, made them feel like they weren't
the target of everyone's collective hatred, they were
nice kids.
I'm not applying this little feel-good tale to the
whole topic of Gypsy communities, I'm just saying that
they are people like you and I, and their behaviour I
believe has largely been forged by society's hostility
towards them. More hostility won't solve anything,
ever.
