"We are all devastated to confirm the very sad news that our dear friend Robert passed away suddenly yesterday. 

At this time the true cause of this tragedy is unclear and we would ask for sensitivity to the feelings of Robert's close family and friends in not speculating further. 

We are all heartbroken and our deepest sympathy goes out to everyone who knew and loved him.

What a terrible week - with John Peel, that's another two of the key inspirations from my youth now lost. Between them, they helped shape my passion for music, gigs, and the joy of traveling to weird & wonderful places to indulge that passion.

I didn't know Rob personally, but have so many great memories from watching him perform live with New Model Army, and listening to his genius on record.

My thoughts are with his family and friends.
