Re: The Cult - oh fvkin YES have I seen that!! I have it on my shelf & will
have to digitise it some day.

I think there's approx 3 on this list that have any time for The Cult
(understandably because of their latter day stuff), but I can't fault that
video & if you get the cassette version of Dreamtime, the soundtrack is on
the b-side... ;)

Did you see Porl during the Unledded Page & Plant thing? I have a video -
cool to see him in action :)

for me that version of 'Edge of...' is ruined by the utterly awful volume
swelling effect on Porl's guitar. fabulous album track though. suprised it
was Rob soloing on it - thought it'd be Porl. great solo.

Show does have it's not great moments and is not up there with 'Orange' but
the version of A Forest is just sooo good. Although oddly it didnt appear
on the CD version.

didnt get a chance to watch Orange the other night but I definately will
soon - it'll be great to see Push again for a start.

as a total side issue - have you seen The Cult Live In the Lyceum
(spelling?). it was pre-Love era. Really good guitar and bass on that.
They were such a good band then. they should have split after 'Love' for
deffo.

Show - hmm, it seem to drag on for ages & I have to fastforward past a few
more tracks
than Orange. I *have* been thinking of giving it another go, if only to hear
'Edge of the deep..'
again.

I wish they'd bloody bring it & Orange out on dvd!!! They could do loads of
old tv & live gigs
on dvd too. 4kin' useless ;)

Bloodflowers? Bumflowers more like.

ade, what did you think of the 'Show' video?

the version of A Forest on there is absolutely stunning no?

didnt bother with Trilogy, purely cos of cash (lack of). would dig the
first disk for deffo. Disintegration is great but i can only listen to it
every once in a while. Bloodflowers live... yawn...

Nice one Mark!

Yeah, I got that Trilogy thing - for my tastes, the first disc is
genius, the second a 'good reading' of a classic & the third
unlistenable... ;)

Is that Orange VCD stereo?

I saw _In Orange_ back when it came out, and got an Asian VCD of it a
while ago. Pretty sure there was a laserdisc, but I never did
laserdiscs. That VCD, and the Trilogy DVD have been sitting on my
shelf. I'll be glad I have them once I'm in a proper Cure mood again.
These things go in cycles and everything gets its fair rotation. It
would be great if they put out _In Orange_ and _Show_ on DVD. They're
nothing flashy, but it's worth watching the band play (in addition to
listening).

_NWOBFG_ ought to have been a CD/DVD set, don't you think? Ah, don't
get me started on the lack of KJ video! (Official ones.)

dude, I love the Cure In Orange. I made my dad buy me it as soon as
it came out (i was still at school back then) and it's one of the few
VHS tapes I've kept hold of. definately an awesome gig... in fact I
might just go and watch it again now.

best version of Play For Today ever as well.

ade <ade at the-lab.zetnet.co.uk> wrote:

I agree!! Have you got the Cure in Orange video? You should see
'Hundred Years' & 'A Forest' on
that. Started me playing guitar - a BEAST of a gig!

Definitely bring back Porl & Boris.

although Rob Smith and Simon Gallup are as great as ever I think the
band really misses the input of Porl and Boris from the 80s/90s
lineup.

there still isnt a band or guitar who can top the old 10 minute +
versions of A Forest. best guitar playing ever. see their live
'Show' video for evidence of that.

going back to Interpol. I find myself suprised at how good their
Obstacle 1 single is even if I'm unconvinced by them at the same time.

On a scale of 10, I would give the new Cure a 7. Its a good album,
far from my favorite but recommendable. I will say the live versions
of the new stuff played really helped my liking the new album.

You read my mind!

As for Fat Bob, what's the new stuff like? Is it as sh!te as that
Bloodflowers rubbish? I've read some good reviews but people don't
seem to want the intensity as much as I.

I've seen Interpol live 3 times now (opening for other bands such as
Clinic and the Cure) - They fucking suck. Derivative, one dimensional
and boring. I finally got to hear the album about a month ago - I
couldnt sit thru the whole album but I didnt hate it as much as I was
expecting.

Btw - Fat bob and co. put on a fantastic show last week when I saw them.

I had written off Interpol as being another NME-friendly band that
wears suits and sounds a decade or two out of date but their 'Obstacle
1' single is ridiculously good. Has anyone heard their album and if
so how does it compare to that song and also 'PDA'? Is it worth
getting?

I'm still slightly suspicious of them cos MTV2 plays them, and MTV2
are clearly run by people with no taste.
