I like mercurial but have had luck with the alternative git UI called gitless. It fixes some of the worst design problems of git. http://gitless.com

And the local tooling for Git as opposed to Mercurial. e.g. gitg vs. hgview –
the former works nicely, the latter seems broken a stalled.

Atlassian seem to be treating Mercurial as a third class citizen repository
system on BitBucket promoting Git ahead of all. Buckbucket support for Git is
far inferior to GitHub and GitLab. GitHub has an integrated code/issue/wiki/
system that seems to work better than the equivalent on GitLab oe BitBucket.
GitHub has the "mindshare" as the central repository management system for
distributed version control systems.

For many people, Git is overall inferior to Mercurial (and Breezy, and indeed
Fossil), but this move was debated long and hard and is I think the right
move.
