What makes music great? NPR Performance Today commentator Rob Kapilow has the answer. Through musical examples, engaging commentaries, and a live performance of the piece, Kapilow takes listeners inside the music to experience these masterpieces like never before. "Not since Leonard Bernstein has classical music had a combination salesman-teacher as irresistible as Kapilow…" (Kansas City Star)

The Great Romantics
Schumann: Fantasy in C Major, Op. 17

Like all 19th century composers, Robert Schumann (1810-1856) wrote in the shadow of Beethoven. In the magnificent Fantasy in C, Schumann wrestles with the Beethoven legacy, quotes his music, and discovers a new path for the future. Rob Kapilow guides the audience through a journey of discovery in one of the greatest piano works of the era performed by pianist Yuliya Gorenman.

Known for her artistic fire, extraordinary virtuosity and masterful interpretations, award-winning Russian-born American pianist Yuliya Gorenman has been rightfully called a "pianist without fear."
