Amazing history stuff!

My best memories of opening bands:
- Stabbing Westward opening for Killing Joke in Munich, around 1994 or so
- Green Day opening for Bad Religion in Seattle in 1993

>
> Van Halen opening for Y&T in a small club in 1977. I don't even remember Y&T, I think we left before their set. But this was my first time seeing a live band and this was over a year before Van Halen even released their first album. Mind blowing.

> U2 opening for The J Geils Band in 1982. Talk about a weird pairing, this was at the height of the J Geils Band's popularity with the "Freeze Frame" album and the "Centerfold" single. U2 had released their 2nd album "October" and was still a pretty shaky, tentative live band. I had seen them once before during the "Boy" tour in '81 and was very surprised to see them win over the arena crowd who would otherwise never would see such a "new wave" band like U2.
>
> Prince opening for The Rolling Stones at the LA Coliseum in '81. This was the infamous show where a pre-Purple Rain era Prince got relentlessly pelted with trash and shoes throughout his opening set. The Stones crowd would have nothing of this skinny black dude dressed in tight leather and fishnets playing funky dance music.
>
> Gary Moore opening for Rush 1984. My friend and I were huge Gary Moore/Thin Lizzy fans and Moore rarely toured the US. So we bit the bullet and went to this show, enjoyed Moore's set, and when Rush started, went up to the lawn area and gave our 10th row tickets to a couple who were bummed the sound and sightlines where so crappy back there. Made their night, we left.
>
> Guns n' Roses opening for The Cult 1987. I saw Guns n' Roses a bunch of times either headlining clubs or opening for other bands around this time but this was by a long stretch their best show supporting their debut album. The Cult was plugging the "Electric" album and put on a great show but GnR blew them away and at some point, even Ian admitted during their set GnR were world beaters.
>
> Demolition Doll Rods opening for The Cramps, 2006. I had never heard of the Doll Rods before seeing this show. Absolutely blew me away. There was a few people in the pit near me drunkenly boo'ing them and I almost threw down with one guy who wouldn't shut up. This also turned out to be one of the last shows The Cramps ever played.
>
> Nine Inch Nails opening for Jane's Addiction 2009. Really should have been JA opening for NIN. This was during NIN's "farewell" tour and they played an awesome set. Janes was doing the reunion with original bassist Eric Avery and you could tell he was already ready to quit the band.
>
> Bands that were perfect fits for each other include Social Distortion opening for Iggy Pop - 1988, Bauhaus opening for Nine Inch Nails, - 2006, Motorhead & Dio opening for Iron Maiden - 2003, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club opening for The Jesus And Mary Chain - 2007....

> As far as support bands for Killing Joke, the only two I remember was Pigmy Love Circus in 2008 who were forgettable and Amen in 2003 who were laughably bad.
