It is increasingly becoming so that venues can double up on revenue where the majority have club nights and gigs on the same evening.  Problem I find is bands rush sets after support acts either overrun or have technical difficulties and end up not doing an extra encore because of the curfew no matter how enthused the audience are.
  
This and then leaving the venues at 10pm miffed that you didn't get a particular song you had hoped for due to a shortened set to find queues outside of the X Factor generation girls shivering in their near porno outfits awaiting to emulate Rihanna on the dancefloor.
