[kj] Lecture last night

The dumber the conspiracy theory, the higher my irritation with those
making the claim... the most
tiring, frustrating part is that the onus is on us - the 'non-believers' -
to prove the theory is false, rather than on
those making the claim to prove it is real.

It all comes down to Russell's Teapot... philosopher Bertrand Russell said
that if he claims there is a
teapot in orbit around the sun somewhere between Earth and Mars, it is
rediculous for him to expect
others to believe him on the grounds that they can't prove him wrong. He
must be the one providing proof
of its existence. He was actually talking about religion and god, but it
fits perfectly well with conspiracy
theorists.

I probably should ignore it all and just enjoy the riffs, but I'm finding
that increasingly difficult.
