[kj] eagulls

Saw them in Mpls last fall. The (granted small) venue was full, based on buzz, but the band wore out their welcome after half a set. They have a KJ-esque vibe and guitar sound, but so do a lot of bands, and they are in need of a much more compelling front man, IMO. Glad I went, first album is good, but I subsequently lost interest.

Fair enough — there isn’t a great deal of diversity to their sound (everything kinda sounds like Robert Smith filling in for Peter Murphy on a forty-minute version of “Lagartija Nick”), but look at Motorhead, The Wedding Present, The Ramones, AC/DC — all their songs sounded the same too!

I only stumbled onto them today through Deezer and have played them quite a bit during the day
Nick: ‘noise in a Spinal Tap sense’ made me chuckle.

I quite like the debut album. I resisted listening to them for MONTHS given the abject stupidity of their name, but I’m now hooked.

I heard a track by them on 6Music and thought they sounded pretty good...then heard them as support at the Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the Royal Albert Hall in support of Suede....
Could have been bad mixing or the fact we were right up in the gallery, but seriously could barely make out one tune from the next..literally was just noise boom. Now this is coming from someone that actually loves their wall of noise shoegaze era stuff like Kitchens Of Distinction, Slowdive, Curve etc.
This was noise in the Spinal Tap sense, seems all the dials were cranked to 11 and you couldn't make out a thing, sounded like we were the ones outside of the venue listening in.
