LOL- shouldn`t be too long before grown men are weeping all over Facebook because they paid £13 for Pylon and
now a track is being given away free with a magazine...."As fans we deserve better.."

So, I posted this on FB, as I post many things about KJ on FB, and started a mini-shitstorm because "KJ aren't metal!!!"

Whatever. It's mainstream recognition and if it results in another 200 people actually buying the album, then it's a good thing. The "Official" KJ FB page subsequently posted the link and the playground snits in the comments section are hilarious, if you have some time this afternoon.

"Pylon" has been named to another half-dozen "Best Metal Albums of 2015" lists that I've found already. Half the bands on the RS list aren't "metal," inc. FNM, Refused, Tau Cross, etc. It's just a generic catch-all for heavy music and, like it or not, the majority of KJ's recent coverage comes from metal media. Do we really expect Rolling Stone to have a "Best Unquantifiable Post-Punk Albums of 2015" list? I get that KJ belong to no genre, blah blah, but I suspect the band would like to, you know, actually sell some copies and make some money off this one.

Anyway here's the RS list. I recommend the Tau Cross, Refused, Clutch and Ghost albums; others may feel differently. De gustibus est non disputandum.

*Ex-Psychedelic Furs Guitarist John Ashton Returns With SATELLITE

*"A monstrous, swaggering wall of sound." - Vive Le Rock (UK)"Akin to his
celebrated contemporaries, Johnny Marr and The Edge, John Ashton is that
rare breed of guitar player whom you can identify in a single note or
chord." - Tom Semioli, Huffington Post*

Interstellar Sound is proud to announce the release of "Angelic," the 2nd
single and video from the critically acclaimed debut album by SATELLITE
PARADISO, the new all-star project from John Ashton, formerly of The
Psychedelic Furs.

The album finds the iconic guitarist still pushing the sonic boundaries he
forged a generation ago, with his penchant for anthemic melodies as strong
as it ever was.

This is clearly demonstrated within the first few seconds of "Angelic." The
song explodes in the kind of glorious, insanely catchy, sax-driven melodic
rush that typifies the best of The Furs, while clearly setting its own
agenda for the future. The video adds digital LSD.

See and hear for yourself on YouTube (https://youtu.be/xiPBbXmD2S4) or on
Facebook (http://on.fb.me/1N5FdRv).

A little help from his friends has serendipitously shaped Ashton's crew for
this voyage into an ensemble for the ages, including bassists Sara Lee
(Gang of Four, B-52s) and Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie, Lenny
Kravitz); *drummer
Paul Ferguson (Killing Joke)*; guitarist Cheetah Chrome (Dead Boys, Rocket
>From the Tombs); Mercury Rev's Anthony Molina and Jonathan Donahue; Flo &
Eddie's Mark Volman (The Turtles, Frank Zappa, T.Rex); and original Furs
members Duncan Kilburn (sax) and Roger Morris (guitar, keys) - just to name
a few.

"Angelic" features Sara Lee (bass); current Furs members Mars Williams
(sax), Amanda Kramer (piano, keys) and Paul Garisto (drums); and new-found
powerhouse Fred Schreck (The Ancients, Crush) on lead vocals and lyrics.

Schreck and drummer/pianist Frank Coleman (Bentmen/Secret Agent), who made
the video, form the core of the live band and are among a number of "new
faces" on the album (many with long careers) whose profiles have been
elevated through Ashton's discovery.

The Psychedelic Furs first assaulted the American rock 'n' roll
consciousness with Top 40 smash, "Love My Way," followed by "Heaven," "The
Ghost in You," "Pretty In Pink," (which gave the John Hughes film its name)
and "Heartbreak Beat."

SATELLITE PARADISO gives Ashton a new platform, liberating him to go where
no six-string gunslinger has gone before. The group has amassed a
grassroots following of die-hard fans, after a successful PledgeMusic
campaign to launch the album. A second album and live performances in the
US and Europe are being planned.

The album is available now on iTunes: (http://apple.co/1lxsjVv) and Amazon (

*"John Ashton unveils SATELLITE PARADISO, a long-gestating all-star project
that explores cosmological questions uniting science, nature, and
temporality with a totalizing virtuosity. Distortion becomes a palpable
electromagnetic field as Ashton embarks on a Dante-esque sonic journey
through a rhythmic wormhole in space-time that leads somewhere between 1984
and a timeless utopian future." - Aidan Levy, THE VILLAGE VOICE*

*"With its virtuoso riffs, sonic swirls, sassy sax, melancholic cello and
powerful vocals, SATELLITE PARADISO is music of the highest calibre." -
Manchester Review (UK) "From power pop to rock 'n' roll aggression, this is
a project just itching for airplay." - Vive Le Rock (UK)*

Had seen the FB comments and to be honest it is one of the reasons I detest
Faecesbook. I guess a lot gets lost in translation for some, but just gets
so annoying, especially if it is from people you know in real life, so in
long run best ignored.
Well done to the band though, this album seems to be reaching a wider
audience and hopefully it inspires then to do a few more albums.

I agree with Rheinhold when he wrote:

"Do we really expect Rolling Stone to have a "Best Unquantifiable Post-Punk
Albums of 2015" list? I get that KJ belong to no genre, blah blah, but I

I was a little (pleasantly) surprised they name checked Pinkish Black in
the review, as those are some local (Dallas) friends of mine who are nuts
about Killing Joke and were really stoked to see them mentioned in the same
review. (Pinkish Black are great, btw - check them out.) But seeing KJ
alongside a list that includes Marilyn Manson and Lamb of God is a little
depressing. Still, I hope it leads to new folks discovering them and to KJ
selling records, like RS says.

Pylon came in at No. 6 in the Classic Rock magazine Top 50 of 2015. Euphoria also appeared on their cover CD too.

Hadn't heard of Pinkish Black before and have checked them out. Good stuff. I always appreciate happy accident music referrals.
