In one of the links to a Youth interview somewhere in this thread he mentions going out to see Floyd in Australia. Wonder if this is the same gig where Geordie climbed the rigging.
My mate was drunk and approached Dave Gilmour in a pub once to heap praise on him. Obviously not what you'd do in a clearer state of mind. 
My mate said to him: "I just want to thank you, to thank you for... for the music." (Nearly cries).
Dave Gilmour, having had this kind of comment for several decades, just says with ennui: "No. Thank you. Thank you." Followed by stone-cold silence. Mate walks away, feeling silly.
(Incidentally, since reading a New Order gig review in the NME in c1986, which described Barney as having performed with "laconic ennui", I have always looked for an opportunity to use the world ennui. Today, I have found it).
