This
year's CBGB Music & Film Festival will travel from the Bowery to
Broadway with "CBGB" and "Broadway Idiot," the documentary on Green
Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and the making of the musical "American
Idiot."
Taking place Oct. 8-13, about 60 feature films and shorts
will be screened, 25 of which are receiving world and U.S. Among the
films making their debuts are Brandon Walz's "Geek USA," Shaun
Pettigrew's documentary on Killing Joke, Michael Cain "The Starck
Project" about the Dallas nightclub and Greg Harding's work-in-progress
documentary on the Bronx, N.Y., punk/funk band E.S.G. Gorman Bechard
will show clips of his film on Hüsker Dü's Grant Hart.
"Our film selections will showcase a solid mix of music
genres including rock, bluegrass, pop and folk, while also exploring the
foreign music culture of countries such as Brazil, Italy, London,
Australia and the underground punk scenes in Montreal and Toronto," film
festival director Joe Amodei said in a statement.
"CBGB," director Randall Miller's take on the story of
Hilly Kristal and his club that birthed underground rock 'n roll and
punk, will open the festival at 8 p.m. on Oct. 8. "Broadway Idiot,"
directed by Doug Hamilton, plays Oct. 10.
The 2013 CBGB Film Festival World Premieres:
"Every Everything: The Music, Life & Times Of Grant Hart." Director: Gorman Bechard (World Premiere)
Bechard will show clips from this unfinished film and discuss the movie.
"Geek USA. Director: Brandon Walz
A high school senior wins a battle of the bands and goes from unknown geek to most eligible bachelor for prom.
"The Death And Resurrection Show." Director: Shaun Pettigrew
A
music documentary exploring the turbulent, controversial and often
unbelievable 30-year history of British post punk industrial band
Killing Joke.
"The E.S.G. Story." Director: Greg Harding
Story of three sisters in the Bronx who form the post-punk/funk band E.S.G.
"The Starck Project." Director: Michael Cain
Film includes appearances from the late Larry Hagman, Owen Wilson and this year's CBGB Icon Award Winner Seymour Stein.

The 2013 CBGB Film Festival U.S. Premieres
"Autoluminescent." Director: Richard Lowenstein
Documentary on Rowland S Howard, an early Melbourne punk.Narrated by Henry Rollins.
"Dutch Influence." Directors: Samuel Comazzi, Hatib el Khatib
Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Afrojack, Laidback Luke and other leaders in house music tell their stories.
"Heart Of Bruno Wizard." Director: Elisabeth Rasmussen
Bruno
Wizard was a London punk musician who performed at the Roxy club who
rejected record company contracts to follow his own principles.
"Livin Out Rock N Roll." Director: Paulo Sedarazzi
The story of the Baby Teenage Idols from the London 80s rock scene.
"Locked In A Garage Band." Director: Jennifer Westcott
The
first feature from filmmaking sisters Jennifer and Victoria Westcott
tackles six feuding members of a high school rock band locked in their
garage for a day.
"Paul Kelly, Stories Of Me." Director: Ian Darling
Australia's gifted singer-songwriter's 40 year career.
"Pleased To Meet Me." Director: Archie Borders
The
lead singer of a seminal punk band reunites with his former partner to
form a band for a single day. Starring Aimee Mann, John Doe, Loudon
Wainwright.
"Romeo And Juliet: A Love Song" Director: Tim Van Dammen
A hip-hop operatic version of the Shakespeare classic.
"Svengali." Director:John Hardwick
Dixie (Johnny Owen) is a postman from South Wales who discovers a great band on YouTube and offers to manage them.
"The Montreal Underground." Director: Giuliano Bossa
Documentary on the DIY local scene of Montreal.
Among other films that have played other festivals that
will be screened the CBGB festival are "Babe and Ricky's Inn," "Bad
Brains: A Band in DC," "Bayou Maharajah: The Tragic Genius Of James
Booker," "Brothers Hypnotic," and "Big Star Nothing Can Hurt Me."
