He certainly did when I saw them... bit embarrassing really.

OK, so you're Brad Pitt - that don't impress me much.

Paul Roberts - was he the one who insisted on taking his T-shirt off at every gig as he obviously worked out a lot?

Vocalist was paul Roberts. He was a prick. Guitarist was Jon Ellis. Tried to make them a blues band. Was glad when he was sacked!

Great band.

I saw the original line-up in Vienna in 1985 (fantastic), and then caught most of a set at Guildford Festival in about 2001 (ok, but the vocalist - Ellis? - seemed like a bit of a prick).

Worth a shot, I'd say.

Well, you won't get many other chances I reckon so go for it.

I just found that, since Rattus at the Roundhouse, the pace has dropped and the spark gone.

Great songs. Great personalities and always a deep affection for them.

Having never seen them back in the day w/ Hugh (which is annoying, as i do remember having the chance and stupidly passing it up), i feel obligated to go check them out (they so rarely come to the States). I'll miss Jet and Hugh, of course, but just to hear JJ Burnell's bass in a live context will be worth it, I think.

Saw the Stranglers last weekend and excellent as ever. Jet is doing half the show on the UK tour , came on for a wonderful version of Genetix, also did Who Wants the World and Thrown Away so I was very happy – my only other wish would be Shah Shah a Go Go. Personally I like Baz, better guitarist for me and good singer and nice guy plus he was in the Toy Dolls. Giants is brilliant and one of their best since Feline and I liked their later Hugh albums even 10. Just stopped liking them when that pillock Ellis took over singing duties. Agree with Alex got better again from Norfolk Coast.

Thing about Stranglers is they did the early stuff and they will always do it live so anything they do after that you learn to appreciate, bit like Sandinista etc.

It amazed me the transition from 1976 to 1986. Up to 1982 they were solid.

After Hugh left they made some very patchy albums. I over rated them at the time. Hindsight has taught me a lesson! Norfolk coast and suite XVI, are worth listing. These preceded giants which is a midget of an album.

Hugh Cornwell has produced some excellent work in his last two albums and I would rather see him that the Stranglers these days. And yes, no Jet Black as he is rather frail these days. But does a bit here and there.

I'd say that's a fair comparison. The Stranglers have gone through several other permutations since then, however. Two lead singers later, Hugh is still absent from the ranks, alas.

I have limited exposure to this band. Could a true fan explain how they went from the sound on songs like "No More Heroes" to the sound on "Skin Deep" (also a good song but so different)? Was the latter a temporary diversion (like KJ's BTATS)?

First North American dates in 15 years. Chicago shows apparently already sold out. Kind of like Geordie, Youth and BPF touring w/o Jaz but I would go if the tour came a little closer to Mpls.
