[kj] [KJ] Another one for the Codex Alimentarius files....

I work in the chemical industry.

I'm in china right now and visited a place where they make essential oils.
Made by pressure extraction and distillation. Not all chemical products are hideous and harmful by the way ( let's not have that debate!)

Anyhow, they were telling me about a new factory that makes aroma products. Lots of our aroma products are synthetic as you will appreciate but this new place is looking to make extractions from fruit. Hmmmmmmm

And it got me to thinking about this whole thing again and how pointless it is that we are desperate for all the goodness of food but our "civilised" society is too busy to actually go to the effort of eating it. Rather we pay people very little to grow and destroy food which is just so wrong. Rather like the whole biofuel industry. I could see that was bullshit from a 100 miles away. Ironic how it started in response to green pressure. And who now opposes it most vehemently? Bingo!

Ok, after the vitamins are extracted the food "waste" ends up in other applications. It's not as bad as folk make out. But it is so ironic that the pulp can end up in animal food as bulk where they, you guessed it, add vitamins back in!

One day it might make sense........
