Re TB & Stephane's questions:

The doco is largely in chronological order, so it covers Raven joining the
band, tension starting to build during Night Time / Brighter with BPF saying
that it became more and more about egos esp after the success of the Night
Time album and LLB in particular, and you can see it in some of the footage
from the time as well. Then Outside the Gate - BPF refusing to listen to the
keyboards while he lays down the drums (obviously the drumming was naff as a
result)- at this stage I think he wasn't talking to Jaz at all. So the drums
were replaced entirely and BPF and Raven left the band.

Then Big Paul and Raven leaving where Jaz said they wanted a new rhythm
section (ouch), the different periods where Raven and Youth are in or out,
Raven leaving to join Ministry (ouch), and it covers his death and
subsequent events in detail too.

There is footage from Raven's funeral, and also interview footage of Big
Paul talking about what it was like for him during the period when he wasn't
in the band - I don't want to spoil the doco by providing too much
information, but obviously it was hard. He discusses what it was like
rejoining, there's footage of him and Jaz hugging warmly at the funeral etc.
I was quite surprised that they put the footage of the funeral in, wasn't
expecting it, it was a nice addition. Then there are some photos of Jaz's
journey in South India where he took Raven's ashes around various temples
and finally scattered them in a sacred river.

Stephane - I'm not sure if there was footage from the Geneva reunion sorry,
it wasn't mentioned specifically that anything was in Geneva, but it could
have been...? As I said it's a 2.5 hr long doco, with loads of footage, no
filler, and also I don't have the world's best memory. Although I have
noticed a strange correlation lately between how hammered I get at gigs and
how much I remember, and as I was almost totally sober last night I can
remember quite a lot of detail. It's one of those things that I think I
could watch many, many times, at least every year if not more, and I bet
most of you will feel the same. It's thoroughly entertaining, and as I keep
saying, the subject matter of the documentary, and the subject matter and
delivery of the music is serious and earnest enough that when one of the
band members, Mike Coles, Jaz's Mum, the band's management, various
journalists, Jimmy Page, Dave Grohl etc makes a funny quip, it's hilarious
and really servers to break the tension. I guess you could say that Shaun
has used tension and release quite masterfully, although he had a lot to
work with because of the great sense of humour in pretty much all of the
people he interviewed. Oh I should mention there's even footage of that
infamous night when Jaz and Dave Grohl got pissed in Auckland and tore shit
up, haha.

There's a bit of footage of Big Paul back with the band, it doesn't go into
a lot of detail about the touring and the albums he's been on since, but
there's a bit there. In fact Big Paul and Youth appear in the doco
extensively from beginning to end, which is a great addition. I think
Youth's interviews were shot in 2003, and Big Paul's obviously later - Big
Paul's comments are more current and poignant for it, and Shaun did mention
that when they started filming in 2003 obviously they had no idea how it
would end, and Raven's passing and BPF's rejoining and frankness in his
interviews added an emotional element to the film.

They all share a common sense of humour, there's even some funny Geordie
comments - e.g. re guitar playing - "all the elements come together to make
something bigger than the sum of the parts - it's like cooking really" Very
deadpan delivery, another one of those moments when everyone in the cinema
laughs out loud, there were quite a lot of them. Oh and a great round of
applause at the end of the doco too.

Anyway I must stop talking about it because I don't want to spoil it for
everyone =)

Bear in mind the premiere was a 150 minute version, which Shaun (the
director / filmer) said will be whittled down to more like 90 minutes. As a
fan I didn't find it dragged at all, I felt privileged to be viewing this
footage and it was both thoroughly entertaining, amusing, and touching at
times.

+++++++++++++++

Does it cover Raven's death, the reunion and subsequent albums and tours
leading up to at least the last year or so or does it pretty much only go up
to the mid 2000's where the bulk of footage and interviews took place?
