>Funny thing is, at the time it felt like ages had passed in between those two gigs.  Reading '86 was before Brighter had been released (just), and featured the Jaz/Geordie/Raven/Big Paul line-up that was pretty much classic Joke, whereas Finsbury Park was post-OTG, post-implosion, and indeed post the point where it looked like the Joke was over.  Five years was forever back then.

>>A long time ago - by the time alt-fest happens, it'll be nearly 28 years - I went to Reading Rock Festival in order to see t'Joke.  I slept in a subway in Reading station that night, in between a gang of casuals and a gang of bikers who spent the night hurling insults and threats at each other.  As a scrawny young punk, I didn't fancy my chances if they decided to meet half-way.  Also, it had rained at the gig, so I was a bit damp.

>>It was 100% worth it.  I'd recorded the whole thing (the gig, not the insults & threats) on my ghetto blaster and I still have the tape somewhere...

>>

>>Slightly less time ago (but still, by the time alt-fest happens, approx 23 years) I went to a gig in Finsbury Park in order to see KJ.  It was a short set, in daylight, but it was the Extremities tour, and they opened with Money.  Feckin hell, but they rocked.  NMA came on after them.  "This one's for Killing Joke.  It's called Men In White Coats." Ha!
