[kj] The Cure magazine Alt 80s etc etc

I was going to mention this fortnight ago, found it to my great surprise & pleasure in WHS.  But thought I would keep quiet about it.  Impressed by the mention of obscure bands & on the CD.  Bit pricey but worth getting to remedy the stale smell of shit in the current younger music scene.

The Fungus Moth.

Challenging the Future.

Good for him - looks like he's enjoying himself.  Hope it stays that way!

On Friday my 17-year-old nephew signed a 5-year, 4-album deal with
Universal/Polydor.
He was in a band for a while but last year decided he wanted to go solo,
and, er, it seems
to have paid off. One of his vids on YouTube has got 8 million views. It's
crazy.
(I know all his teenage female fans are watching the vids 1000 times each,
but still..)

I called him today and his conversation is already filled with "Yeah my
lawyer says..." and
"Should be some heavy touring next year...". But he's a smart kid so I just
hope he enjoys it.
Two points:
1) I tried to get him into my music, I really did. All those KJ/punk/metal
compilation CDs possibly
sent him the other way, however, as he might become the next Beiber.
2) I hope he remembers his kindly uncle when the millions roll in.

Vid here - enjoyment factor possibly multiplied if a 15-year-old female:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gebYB0y4PGg

Like I say... I tried.

In the August 2012 issue of The Cure -alternative 80s magazine, there is 11 pages of Killing Joke and an interview with Jaz, and some good archive photos of the band. Jaz talks about the making of the Night Time album and the occasion a drunken Geordie caused ?800,000 damage to Berlin's Hansa Tonstudios and "there was some really nasty violence...a broken arm, a nose split in half...Man it was fucking ugly".
How Jaz didn't want Love Like Blood on the LP because he thought they were selling out. The mysterious Blue Feather incident when Jaz during a magical meditation saw a vision of a bright blue feather, and then later when he left his house in Portobello Road, London and made his way back to Hammersmith he found a bright blue feather, and how Raven also found one.
How Killing Joke expressed their pan-European ideals and Jaz became vehemently anti-American. How Paul Ferguson and Jaz are into the writings of Yukio Mishima, such as The Samurai Ethic and Modern Japan.
A free CD with the mag includes tracks by the KJ influenced 1919.

Thanks for sharing; it is most definitely worth getting.

Anyone in Los Angeles know where to find this magazine? I have not heard of it.

Classic Rock and MOJO do special (read: higher-priced) editions like these all the time. I find them at Barnes & Noble (at least in Minnesota). Any place that carries Classic Rock will most likely have these as well.

Spotted on Facebook -- someone attended the Cult/Mission gig, and evidently the Mish opened their set with a quick blast of  "Eighties."
