[kj] very OT: short story

as quite as it is in killing joke land I might get your attention to answer a question that has been bothering me for a while... back in school I read a short story where a boy couldn't resist kicking a wooden box and thus helping a man to commit suicide / to get killed... any ideas concerning title and author?
