Porcupine Tree are one of those bands people seem to either love or hate (see also Cardiacs) 
 
Have a listen to Steven Wilsons solo stuff as well . . Insurgentes and Grace for Drowning are both brilliant (as is Storm Corrosion, his collaboration with Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth)

never heard them till this week,
sound better live just like rush and neph
i've only really listened to Fear of a Blank Planet 
the other tracks i've heard seem slower
