Don't just take my word for it--read up on how they did this. It will be more productive than parroting anti-communist slogans.

So they all became born again Communists, I guess. Sorry Greg, but saying "but when people have jobs and support they can overcome it" is just complete toss.

Did they all get their little red book, and idolize 'the Party'?

Sure counselling helps, but that is one seriously blanket statement (nebulous).

Not sure what you're asking, but when people have jobs and support they can overcome it.
A good book to check out is "Away With All Pests" by a British doctor who lived in China during the 50s, and observed
the advances in health that occured.

What did they replace the addiction with? Blind faith?

Large #s of people were involved in health care (if on a rudimentary basis) and the position was to re-integrate addicts back into society, not jail them.
Even from a practical point of view--Western historians estimate that 1/3 of the population had some form of opium addiction, so the anticommunist fantasy
that these people were all jailed is silly.

Really? What kind of rehab were they using, besides four enclosed walls and EST?
MAO!

They actually jailed the drug loards and rehabed the addicts, integrating them into socieity and the work force, etc--something the US has been poor at doing

The disparagement between rich and poor in both Russia and China is phenomenal. Much like the States; where certain work conditions are disgusting..millions of Americans work excessive hours, without sick or leave.
The Chinese were taught to reiterate propaganda, and they threw their addicts into jails.

Yes of course wealth is good (if we all get some!). Russia and China are still in the early stages of market capitalism (as opposed to gov-run
capitalism of previous decades), and that's why they are accumulating wealth so fast. Just like the US did in it's early stages (Marx even had a term
for it--the "primitive accumulation of capital". But if you look at the socialist/gov-run captialist phases of those 2 countries, they also developed from
very backwards, agricultural nations into,, in the case of USSR, industrial giants (remember the "other" superpower)? I thinks the current explosion of
wealth in China, while due to the tremendous exploitation of their workers (again, similar to the early days of the US when there was child labor, 12 hour days, etc),
would not be possible w/o the advances made under the socialist period. Hell, they even taught the whole country to read, and wiped out opium addiction, during the Mao (socialist) years.

Yeah.

All those Russians and Chinese have had soooooo much wealth haven't they.
I remember the 80s and 90s!
I have seen them prosper more under capitalism than communism.

China and Russia have far more wealth. Its just unevenly spread now. That's the big problem with capitalism. The greed. Wealth is not a bad thing at all.

Fluke, I think you'll agree you've got part of this backwards. The lessening of wealth is not due to "communist ideals" but capitalist economics. Capitalism has built-in
competition beteween businesses as well as countries (the political representation of business). Real communism can lead to the expansion of wealth
because there is no competition, which leads to overproduction of goods, followed by lowering of wages, unemployment, cuts in services (just what is
happening now in the US and elsewhere). So the shift of wealth from West to East is really a natural process of capitalism and imperialism (e.g. China is growing as an imperialist country).
Take an obvious historical example--when the USSR was advancing, they were only about 1/2 communist, but they were setting world records for production
even while the rest of the globe was caught in the Great Depression.

I dont believe that that is the reason.
The Occupy wall street protests are predominantly First World based , and recently there has been a huge shift of wealth, from West to East .
Previously First World Countries had the majority of wealth, now that wealth has been spread globally...so theres less to go around
Descent isnt growing across the globe,, its only growing in Countries that are being adversely affected by the new wealth distribution process.
This is the effect of the Communist ideals that Jaz adheres too .
More people sharing the wealth and jobs, so there's less to go around .

Pole Shift
I think most people will be familiar with the concept of what a pole shift is, which has happened on our planet so many times. If you look at the historian Herodotus who went to Egypt and talked to the priests there, they told him that the sun had changed from rising in the east to rising in the west four times in their history; we’re due for another one.
The earth’s geomagnetic current is diminishing in power; the worry is that this is a prelude to a complete pole flip. Magnetic north, you see, is meant to be moving at a rate of two inches every ten years, right now it’s moving at 70km a year. It has left Canada and is now hurtling towards Siberia as we speak.
The outcome of a flip would mean that the earth would stop going one way, the stars would stand still, then it would move the other way – causing massive earth displacement, which is like the rocks moving underneath the carpet really fast. If you could imagine the kind of tidal waves that would probably take out most of the coastal cities, meaning that the only real safe places on the planet would be somewhere high above sea level, presumably.
The thing about a diminishing magnetic field is that, we’re at 0.005 gauss, and if it gets to 0 gauss on planet Earth – they’ve done tests on what happens to cosmonauts and astronauts under these conditions and it produces random aggression and madness basically. So if you think about places like Cairo, where the great marker peg of the pyramid is, you can see that something abnormal is happening.
Besides all this, what’s happening at the moment is you’re getting whole groups of people waking up to the reality of our economic and banking systems that we’ve had in place for hundreds of years. Like this Occupy Wall Street movement – the dissent that’s growing across the globe, you can see a polarization of values. I think that speculation on extreme life extinction is a waste of time, but what’s really happening is a major shift in our values. The things that are dear to us these days – this ‘me’ generation, everybody wanting iPhones, material things and more wages – we need a revolution of the heart.
To move away from this mode we need to activate the right side of the cerebral hemisphere. We’ve got materialist mode on at the moment, and if we continue going down this path, within seven years we’ll need a new planet that we can rape for resources. So the whole idea of economic growth – it’s a redundant concept. We should be looking at sustainability and the wellbeing of the human condition above anything. I’m absolutely not a capitalist, I’m not a Marxist either. But I am a communist when it comes down to equal opportunities, divisions of the spoils, I believe that food and water is a human right. It’s not just for the rich.
