Listening on computer w/shitty earphones--Pole Shift--thought I wouldn't like the long keyboard intro and slow/fast thing either but it has a nice, positive vibe to it. Like some others have mentioned, the chug-a-chug metal on the last 3 albums wasgetting a little tiring and seemed forced and sometimes derived. I could imaging this on commercial radio if the programmers were open minded enough. It builds to crecendos in a good way--a mosnter song!Fema Camp--just dark enough (esp given the topic), but not scary dark like "Judas Goat"; too slow for my taste, but decent guitar run in between measures; also, Jaz doesn't sound like Jaz, but in a good wayRapture--heard it before; doesn't really go anywhere but good energyColony Collapse--slightly corny vocal melody, not crazy about this one, but still a good effortCorporate Elect--Geordie's guitar is sounding more and more like Bob Mould of Husker Du (and Sugar)--A GOOD thing! Melody in the verses actually reminds me of Blood on Your Hands verses. In Cythera--agree w/everyone else here; should be on the radio; I can actually make out the lyrics and they're heartwarming! Nobody has mentioned the guitars on the choruses but they are amazingly full, ringing, chiming, melodic.Primobile--to be honest, a little dull (an Extremities b-side?); I think this would sound better live (can anyone who saw one of those shows back this up?); positive note, Paul is finally using the tom-tom again, something I think everyone has missed since the WTF albumGlitch--yes, it does start off as Slipstream (also a good thing)--actually, it IS Slipstream but maybe with better productionTrance--this is a real KJ song, combining elements from many of their albums. I don't agree that it's a rehash of Psyche (which Kalyuga was, and still was a great song)--several KJ songs have that skipping beat, including AD itself. AHE--Yes, kind of boring but this song actually gets heavier as it goes on. In sum, this is a solid, solid album with a great sound--big but not forced or contrived; sounds very Joke, still very heavy but not generic or nu-metallish. I don't agree w/those who said the keyboards are too much (I usually don't care for synths but they just add to the depth of the sound). This album is heavier and darker than I thought it would be from the clips. It's getting back the the REAL Joke sound that we've loved on the first 4 albums, Extremities, Pandy, and Democracy--huge, heavy guitars mixed with dark keys and a synthesis of punk, metal, goth/new wave, and a bit (just a bit) of trance/dance elements. Also, they've learned that most songs should be kept under 5 minutes (wasn't that one thing that people hated about Hossanas?). I can see how some don't think it matches up w/AD--song for song it might not be as good, but it is more of a coherent whole and lends itself much better to listening as an album (I always felt that AD, in terms of song writing, was like 3 or 4 separate albums put together). In sum, maybe not as memorable for the songwriting as Fire Dances or Pandemonium, or as groundbreaking as the first two, or as weird as Revelations, but still classic Joke. Welcome back boys! And FINALLY I've ignored the lyrics b/c I can't really focus on them with all the music to listen to , but I'm sure they'll satisfy my commie concerns! (I gotta get me one 'o them hammer a sickle shirts)
