[kj] KJ spotting circa 1981

I just recently had a debate from a couple of people, downloading, versus
going to the record shop. In my opinion, nothing beats going down to the
record shop to sift through physical releases. Of course, I grew going to
the record shop getting my hands on KJ and other stuff.

"Wonder if in the future kids who grew up in the 2000s will be nostalgic
about how the splash page of the iTunes store used to be...or when you had
to use your fingers to order stuff from a screen, instead of your brain
implants..."hey man remember KEYBOARDS?!"

("affirmative but illogical - beep beep")

On a positive note, I was surprised that at Soundgarden I was surrounded by
kids who obviously were familiar with their songs and knew how to use their
legs and lungs...the kids are...okay. Ish.

I remember them. They played Rhino records here in LA one time. How did he
die? Too much milk and cookies? ;)

Sadly, the singer died last year at the age of 30.

Hey all...

Some of my fellow record-shop geeks might appreciate this. A few days
ago, I posted an entry on my blog about an old favorite shop of mine
down in SoHo here in NYC called Rocks in Your Head. It was this tiny,
little basement enclave in a desolate part of town that just felt like
a veritable SHRINE to everything that was cool. I can't tell you the
amount of amazing records I procured from this spot. It was also the
first place I ever laid my hands on a Killing Joke t-shirt (white with
the cover of the ALMOST RED sleeve on it). When I first started going
there, they even had a little ice cream shop in the back, so you could
thumb through their vinyl, fine a few rare treasures and then treat
yourself to a milkshake. It was awesome.

Over the years, Rocks in Your Head had to diversify to stay afloat.
They got rid of the ice cream shop in the back and started selling/
renting DVDs. They still stocked vinyl, but also featured an
impressive CD collection. As the neighborhood started to gentrify,
Rocks had a hard time keeping up with its spiraling rent. Sadly, they
were forced to close up shop in 2006. They moved to Brooklyn for a
very short while and then went out of business. Very sad.

In any case, I wrote a little thing about it the other day, and then
apropos of nothing, did another little Google image search for it last
night. Up came some pictures of the place I'd never seen before. Turns
out they came from this MASSIVE archive of downtown NYC pics culled
together by New York University.

In any case, here's a shot of the interior of ROCKS IN YOUR HEAD circa
1981. Gatherers might recognize something here.....

Had part closure on Friday with the minimum of 20 years for Mark who
murdered my father last year, the press have done their bit in a slag down
of me
although some comments have since been removed or adjusted.

Not sure what the hell to do as a response yet.

Just want to get on with life and no repurcussions is that possible???

That's great news on the sentencing but the press having a go at you???
It beggars belief.
How to proceed/respond only you know the answer to but I have found this
advice from my dad always rings true: 'if in doubt, don't do owt'
ie, you'll know the answer when the time is right.
The main thing in all of this is you've had justice for your father & I hope
that starts to give you & your family some closure & the opportunity to move
on

stay strong Dave

That's what I thought. Very odd.

Good advice.

Anyway, thank God he got 20 years. Rightly so.

Cheers,
Janean

Well, that's something at least Dave.

Of course the press will have a slant, that's what they do and what you see
as a slagging will be ignored by alot of people.
But, echoing the others, say nothing. Retain a dignified silence and don't
let it rumble on. It will die down.

The guy admitted he did it and got 20 years, Justice has been done and you
don't want to get involved in an undignified spat with the press Dave. You
won't win mate.

Good luck and see you at the gigs I hope!
