Was able to finally listen to everything--
I think I see how they can feel this is their 'masterpiece' -- although
I feel this release (and the last few) is more for people who are already
fans. Can't see this drumming up throngs of new fans-- if any new ones,
probably more due to the lyrical content.
A piece such as 'In Cythera' may have some appeal to us- but I played for
a few people and their feeling (I could tell) was pretty much like, hmm
that was nice to listen to...once...
I really do like Colony Collapse and in second place Glitch- Both of them
are the closest to what I was envisioning for this. CC just has a majestic
sound (and reminds me much of 'majestic' which I think is a gem) and the
song just reconfirms the elite band that they are-- although CC or glitch
wernt made to be the 'hit' songs of the album- . but these songs gave me that
feeling and excitement I may not have felt from them since Extremities.
The fact they have been putting out music for so long and they are still
putting out tunes that advanced (lyrics/relevancy included) it really is
unprecedented-- I mean think about the schlock that would be expected/accepted
by another band doing it for so long.
There are a few songs I don't really care for (trance and maybe one
more), but I feel the only real 'whiff' is "Pole Shift" - I mean be it that's
encompassing the 2012 theme I was hoping for more solid. Just too long and
not enough punch/ too much dead space-- Id just take the beginning and make
it like 'Kali Yuga" or just cut it in half or something...
Fema camp im trying to let grown on me, but was also hoping for a little
more with that one also.
I think there is enough of it that 'hits' to call it an overall solid
release- weighing it against AD id almost call it even. Its just a bit more
nuanced.
I do like the extra synths direction and hope they keep with..
