Can it also help the band acquire further financing (from a bank, record label,etc.?) if the band can show a cash base and market-support?

"Pledging" allows buyers to underwrite the creation and production of the item so less cash is required by the artist up front.

Like the idea of a 3 CD live album and DVD but puzzled about this pledging business. Just release it fellas and I'll buy it! And if you can manage a special edition with an extra CD of all those tracks you never got around to releasing over the years, that'll be great too.
