Here you go..
"As for Tom and Shining Path, in all the years I worked for him, I don't
know that I ever heard him speak of it. I think he had one guitar with
"Sendero Luminoso" written on it, and that was it. My theory is that Tom,
being a proud socialist with delusions of militancy, heard about a group
of "Marxist rebels" and bought into the idea without looking into them
very closely. Or maybe a friend with an ideological agenda vouched for
the group, and Tom signed on. I'd guess that at this point, he probably
knows what's up, but doesn't want to publicly point out a past bad
decision."

Possibly, didn't think of that, but seems a strange choice!

Is it at all possible that he sports the SL badge in the same way Sid or Siouxie did the swastika? That is, "ironically", naively, or whatever.
After all, he's such a nice guy. Look! Also from that Fount of Some Knowledge, Wikipedia:
In October 2009, Morello, among a number of musicians, sued the US government for the declassification of all documents relating to the use of music in interrogations at Guantanamo Bay. He stated, "Guantanamo is known around the world as one of the places where human beings have been tortured -- from waterboarding to stripping, hooding and forcing detainees into humiliating sexual acts -- playing music for 72 hours in a row at volumes just below that to shatter the eardrums. Guantanamo may be Dick Cheney's idea of America, but it's not mine. The fact that music I helped create was used in crimes against humanity sickens me."

I've always wondered what's going on with that. Shining Path are not some
cuddly workers cooperative, but a bunch of killers.
>From Wikipedia (but easily checkable elsewhere):
"Widely condemned for its brutality,[3][4] including violence deployed against peasants, trade union organizers, popularly elected officials and the general civilian population,[5] the Shining Path is described by the Peruvian government as a terrorist organization."
and
"in April the Shining Path entered the province of Huanca Sancos and the towns of Yanaccollpa, Ataccara, Llacchua, Muylacruz and Lucanamarca, where they killed 69 people, in what became known as the Lucanamarca massacre. This was the first time the Shining Path massacred peasants."
Notice that 'first time':
"Similar events followed, such as the ones in Hauyllo, Tambo District. The guerrillas killed 47 peasants, including 14 children aged four to fifteen."
But this is common knowledge - I've always wondered how no one ever pulled him up on his support
for a group that likes murdering children. Ho hum.
