I used to love The Sisters. I saw them three times in 84/85 and the gigs were a blast - ridiculous
to be sure, but defiantly so! I saw them twice at the Lyceum and the 'final' gig at the Albert Hall
(the end of the Hussey/Adams/Eldritch line-up). The Lyceum gigs were played almost entirely in

a massive cloud of smoke - you could see Eldritch in silhouette and the occasional hat or guitar neck
sticking out of the gloom... hilarious. But the sound was superb - nothing like a well-employed drum machine -
and they really did rock (Temple of Love, Alice, Adrenochrome etc). And I always thought their choice of cover versions was superb - Gimme Shelter,

Sister Ray, Emmaline, Jolene.

I should have made do with my happy memories but was stupid enough to go and see them
in the 90s. Eldritch had decided to "rewrite" - ie ruin - some of the old stuff, so all the crowd

favourites had weirdly changed guitar riffs and sometimes different rhythms. It was horrible.
Never been tempted since.

I have to agree. The Sisters and KJ are pretty disimilar, unless we're assuming that all forms of goth, post-punk, metal, industrial etc etc were created by Killing Joke. As influential as KJ have been, the Sisters were quite obviously not brought into existence purely through the Joke.

The Sisters started out in 1980 and were contemporaries of both KJ and Bauhaus, but certainly have never listed either group as an influence.

"The band cited Leonard Cohen, Hawkwind, Gary Glitter, The Velvet Underground, The
Stooges, Motörhead, Suicide, The Birthday Party, Pere Ubu and The Fall as among their influences"

How do you figure that they wouldn't exist without KJ, considering they sound *nothing* alike?

Jaz, pompous, what are you thinking? <grin>

I thought the early Sisters stuff (Temple of Love etc) was pretty good but no more than that. Whereas Killing Joke have got something to be pompous about...

"More" certainly isn't their finest.
Try either of these instead:

And, it's a good thing that Jaz never came off as pompous back then.... :D

I've just watched them doing More on youtube, and was reminded of how utterly pompous they seemed back in the day (in particular, Eldritch's voice).

Was I wrong? Any Sisters fans care to tell me why they were great?

Weird thing about the Sisters as a live-concern these days (and these days means everything since the mid-90s, I guess), is that they continue to write and perform NEW songs, but they just don't exist as official releases. Sure, you can prize them as muddied bootlegs, but for some of us -- that's just not good enough. Their wry little website has been coy about things for literally decades.

Meanwhile, is anyone going to the Mission reunion (without Mick)? They're recording a reunion album as well .... like the world needs that.

Thinking about it, being a SOM fan is a bit like being a KJ fan if their
last album was Extremities . .

Some may think this is a good thing :o)

Last studio album was 1990. A Temple of Love remix in 92 and Greatest
hits, 1993.
I guess they do a lot of merch? :/

Can a band that hasn't released anything since 1993 really be considered
a band any more?

Don't mention the word Goth to Andy he hates it , has been known to pull

out of any festival that mentions the word.

They're not really The Sisters any more are they? More like Happy Andy
E's 80's Goth Revival Band as far as I can see

I hate seeing the words "Killing Joke" underneath the word "Slipknot" on

a bill. That just ain't right.

Meanwhile, what's the communication like between KJ and the
Sisters? I
believe I remember Jaz slagging off the Sisters way back circa OTG, but
I wonder what the status is these days.
