Very sadly, I have had the same experience and I know there's nothing I can say.  Yes, she is surely spared pain.

My mother just passed away. She had Alzheimer's disease, and a kidney failure took her life. This week I really felt her time was coming.

Right now, my pain and desperation are comforted by the feeling that she finally stopped suffering.
