[kj] OT -- 9%... 10%...

P.S.
The latest news is that, on the other side of the egyptian coin, on the day
Mubarak ran, a mob gang-raped reporter Lara Logan during the resignation
festivities, also then beating her.

How the fuck does rape even enter the picture when your country's just been set
free. WTF?

That’s a sharp observation, sade1.  While no one can guess where Egypt is headed
next – and I genuinely hope it’s toward a more just, democratic form of
government --, surely no one will miss Mubarek. He overstayed his welcome by a
good 20 years or so.

But the egyptian people looked anything but distracted. They looked very
focused, and aware.  Almost as if you could've pulled any one of them from out
the crowd and they could have stated clearly their specific reason why they're
there/what they wanted.

Everyone craving distraction. Revolt for distraction.

Bread and Circuses come to mind

Agree – that goes back to ancient Rome, gladiatorial  games sometimes lasting up
to weeks, to keep the plebs distracted with violent nonsense.

Same effect is achieved today with sports, television, tech gadgets, video
games, celebrities and their antics, fashion and other trends, pop music etc
(btw I indulge in almost all of the former, except fashion - I’m pretty much
morbidly unfashionable - the question is how distracted you allow yourself to
become….)

Some random thoughts.

Now everyone is looking only at Egypt, where the 'people' have won, and now have
the Military in control. :/
What also seems to be happening is a systematic destabilization of the Arab
Nations; Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon etc etc..Could this isolate Iran? (more)
Are there any 'real' factions leading these 'revolutions'? Bread and Circuses
come to mind.
One of America's biggest businesses is the Military, who sell to Egypt.
Rumsfeld shook hands with Hussein. Obama shook hands with Mubarak. Cowboys and
Indians. Machiavellian devices?

What are others on The 'G'  thinking?

Yours truly,
Cynic.

There is a lot of serious talk that what’s happening in Eqypt is largely due to
massive printing of cash causing food prices to rise everywhere.

They’ve gone up something nasty in the last couple years in NZ / Aus. Almost $5
for 2L milk. Anyone noticing the same in the UK / US / Eur / Asia?

I like the progression of Moe Barak's positions throughout this whole thing:

 - Go home(or else!)!  Go home now! (at beginning)
 - OK, I'll leave!, just give me 8 months! (til the Sept. elections)
 - I hereby proclaim to abdicate, ambiguously, forthwith!
~~ signed, (still)thePresident of Egypt (couple of
days ago)
 - Ok, I'm gonna go out of town for the weekend with the wife to go, um, "charm
the sheik" at Sharm-
el-Sheik, just forget about me for now; I'll be back in a few....
 -  Alright, if  I leave (big IF), I'll leave my Chief of Intelligence, Torture
& Suppression in charge. You'll be safe

with him  (I was).  Be grateful.
 - Alright, alright, I'm leaving. Peace out!

Pharaoh, hear thy People: go.
