[kj] April Fools - Royal Festival Hall?

I saw the Beat there between 6 or 7 years ago,  No one danced to the support act (whose name momentarily escapes me, but they were good), due to the ridiculous rules.  Then the Beat came on, and - I think it was Rankin Roger - said: "we're still a dance band you know".  Everyone (well it seemed like everyone) jumped up and started to dance... nothing the bouncers could do.  And that set the scene for the rest of the evening.

But yeah, shit venue.

The Royal Festival Hall is actually one of the worst places to see a gig! So far have seen The Stooges, Roky Erickson and Magazine there and each time it was just the wrong type of venue for them. Crap seating, dancing frowned upon, bad sound, more tossers than normal... it's just no use for these kind of gigs. God knows why they've chosen this place...
