In the US the rich pay 35%, the lowest in many decades, but many companaies pay no or very little taxes due to dishonest cheating (loopholes, etc).
Taxes directly fund things poor people need, so the disgustingly low tax rate on the rich robs the poor of services, leading to more poverty, crime,
abuse, violence, mental illness...
