[kj] OT: Summer 2011

I guess I would ring up my sister and tell her to get the fuck over it for a while and speak to mum, regardless of where my sympathies lie regarding the schism, though I appreciate I don't know the fuller facts.

Hi all

I hope everyone's doing well, and my best wishes to grieving Gatherer. My own mother was diagnosed with not-far-off-terminal cancer recently, so I can sympathize.

I hear Alex's words about mending fences while you can. There's been a growing schism between my sister and my mother for a while now, and yesterday may have been the final nail. Yesterday was the final appointment with the oncologist to find out what stage and how long she has. A stressful day. I was there with her. My brother in Germany phoned. My sister forgot, and she still hasn't remembered. My mother's incredibly distressed about it, and I've run out of excuses.

Christ.

Jim.

Thanks to everyone for their kind, thoughtful words. Yeah, this is entirely surreal, but I have faith that we'll get through it (although we're now discovering some things about my father that we never knew --- don't ever let this happen to your children, it's simply awful.) I just want to get back to normal. Ugh.
On other fronts, am I wrong, or does every other photograph currently coming out of London look like a Mike Coles outtake?
Be safe over there.

Sorry to hear that Alex, the cliches always pile up in these events but ....
time
is a great healer. Hope you and sis get through it OK.
Best,
Neil
