It was around the mid 1980s, shown on US TV, but I saw it on UK TV.

Scenario: A NY Italian-American walks into a jewellers to buy a ring. The sales guy shows him three rings. With each ring the customer looks at himself in the mirror and pulls a few hand gestures as though he were speaking to other people and to see how impressive the ring looks. The gestures become more and more extravagant and aggressive. It becomes clear he's Mafia.
