[kj] My reaction to UK election polls

Long before he was leader of the Lib Dems, Paddy Ashdown came to speak at my school.  He was excellent - a tough, no-nonsense politician. (You could tell he'd been a marine.)

This was in about 1984, so at the height of Thatcherism etc.

Anyway, I was very impressed with him, and it seemed like he could take a joke, so I went up to him afterwards and gave him my treasured Riot Squad badge, which featured the only thing Riot Squad were ever known for: "Fuck the Tories".

I don't know if he ever wore it.
