[kj] (OT) The Religion of Peace, Love and Understanding

Jim makes a really good point. At one time, the Islamic world was a leader in numerous fields. Sadly, that's not the case now -- and in part because of that faith's twisted views about women -- in many cases, not being able to fully participate in all sects of society -- numerous Middle Eastern countries badly lag in economic and scientific areas.
Iranian clerics recently blaming earthquakes on cleavage is the epitome of that.

Just to bring the topic around to the start again, science and technology in the Middle Ages were heavily influenced by Islam and Islamic culture, much more so than Christianity.

due to the influence of christianity--

this grossly oversimplifies the point i was trying to make, but i would like it if you were able to understand the point i am trying to make.. my communication skills must need honing...

anyhoo

religion has had its good influence, and its bad.. alot of the good influences over the centuries have been subtle and overlooked, but have given us the social environment we live in today.. i just wanted to say that.
thats about it really.

So we’ve got:

should the analytical Brendan that i know, take a devils advocate view to what he has just writ, he would have no trouble tearing it to shreds!

did you comprehend the point/s i was trying to make? and the repercussions?? YOUR personal and political (ha!) freedom is (in part) the result of hundreds of years of good people trying to be good people via the message of the bible. can you see that?
our culture in which science is flourishing, is because of our history, which includes the christian backdrop.. i am not saying this is the truth and that i believe it and will smite thee who disagree, but i would like to express this view and make it understood that merely slamming all things religion is rather shallow and ill thought.

the double edged sword of religion, has killed with the lust of the devil, and has also shown love and forgiveness that would bring tears to the eyes of all here. i shit you not.

this would be so much more fun over a smoke and a drink!
my tone is always friendly, even if it gets heated - fonts dont express my childish glee!
