[kj] (OT) The Religion of Peace, Love and Understanding

I think the issue lies with the fact that Islam is complete and utter nonsense. I’m so glad for people like Dawkins, Hitchens et al who have made it acceptable to say what you actually think about these ridiculous beliefs. Believe me I know, I was raised devout catholic an went through the whole system – catholic school with resident parish priest, communion, confession, guilt etc. Anyone who hasn’t been through it and still defends it...trust me, it’s nuts!

I think the issue lies with the fact that the majority of Muslims don't speak up and shun the psychos.
(And maybe the dancing in the streets on 9/11. Just a bit, ya know. It might, just might, come off as callous. Or perhaps the daily massacre-fests
in the African locale. However, I digress.)

Oh! Nearly forgot, I have a friend who "happens to be" (Rip George Carlin) Muslim. :)

I'm in the clear now? Right?

Actually the issue of hypocrisy confirms my argument. Religion tells its followers to do a lot of things- and most of these teachings are ignored one way or another by the majority of 'the faithful'. And that includes Islam.

The issue of hypocrisy only furthers my point. There are none -it’s pick and mix. To be a true Christian (good luck to you on that):

Renounce all worldly goods -

Are taxes considered a worldly good? Cause if they are, I'm covered. (I pay under duress! But I reject, renounce and repudiate taxes!)

First of all, Jesus demands complete, voluntary poverty. Not only does he tell us that it is blessed to be poor, but he also commands his hearers to give away all their property. We are not to "lay up treasures on earth where moth and rust consume and thieves break in and steal" (Matt. 6:19)

Got this one covered as well. I'm very close to broke. I'm just wondering if it's ok to for me to do nothing and live on gov't welfare.

Renounce your family

Does it have to be the whole family or can I pick and choose? I think I got some of this covered as well!

Second, Jesus requires his followers to renounce all family ties, indeed, even to hate father and mother and wife and brother and sister.

Now, I don't hate but I bitch a lot, does that count?

Commit to a life of non-violence

Check! I'm to weak and lazy to fight

Third, Jesus demands a life of absolute non-violence. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn the other one. If someone makes you carry his load, carry it a second mile (Matt.5: 38-41). You are to love all enemies and to do good to all who "despitefully use you."

Fine by me as long as that someone is an attractive (to me) female in latex, leather or PVC gear. I offer both cheeks!

May I now consider myself a good Christian? I'm really tired of being a damned Pharisee.

By those standards, all Christians believe you can own slaves and have more than one wife. But how many of them are bigamists and slaveowners?

So the mantra ‘Islam is peace’ is almost 1,400 years out of date. It was only for about 13 years that Islam was peace and nothing but peace. From 622 onwards it became increasingly aggressive, albeit with periods of peaceful co-existence, particularly in the colonial period, when the theology of war was not dominant. For today’s radical Muslims — just as for the mediaeval jurists who develooped classical Islam — it would be truer to say ‘Islam is waar’. One of the most radical Islamic groups in Britain, al-Ghurabaa, stated in the wake of the two London bombings, ‘Any Muslim that denies that terror is a part of Islam is kafir.’ A kafir is an unbeliever (i.e., a non-Muslim), a term of gross insult.

Unfortunately, while 99 percent of Muslims mean no one any harm, it's vicious cretins like this guy who continue to fan the flames of xenophobia, suspicion and irrational hatred of their faith by those of other religions, ethnic groups, etc.
