Well, played it for the first (and last) time in quite a while...

America - Pretty bad, but not truly truly awful.

My Love Of This Land - Reminds me of the Stranglers around this time (it's 
the wooden block!).  Okay actually.

Stay One Jump Ahead - just about bearable til the drums come in. The first 
few seconds could be the start of something promising... then it's "let's 
go" followed by me going "uuuuurrrgghh".
Then the rap bit!!  Jesus fucking christ.

Unto The Ends - Pretty horrible. Drums are bad, keyboards are bad. Fade out 
part is ok!

The Calling - The music's not too bad, but Jaz's vocals are awful. This 
could be okay with completely different production. And very different vocals.

Obsession - Urrrgh, Jaz's vocals at the start. Hmm, maybe another one that 
would be massively helped by it not being the late-80's. The drum sound is 
beginning to get quite annoying.

Tiahuanaco - I'm almost embarrassed for them. Fucks sake. The last part's a 
bit better. But only better than the really bad part preceding it!

Outside The Gate - This is bad. Slightly interesting about halfway through. 
Then back to being bad. Again, MAYBE with different production it could be 
improved to a level of "okay". Ah, the end part is enjoyable enough though. 
Makes me think of mid-80's Damned actually.

America (Extended mix) - skipped this not far into it... couldn't take anymore!

Stay One Jump Ahead (Extended mix) - Now THIS is more like it!!!! Classic 
Killing Joke... up there with Wardance, Reqiuem and the rest. I'm shouting 
for it at the next gig.


This is as objective as I can possibly be. Still slightly scarred from 
sitting in a friends bedroom in 1988 going "what the fuck is THIS?"

So in conclusion, it's still fucking awful!! Some if it is the production, 
but really, it's just a bad bad LP. Thank the lords for Extremities a few 
years later.
