Alex is right -- when I first heard the song, I was underwhelmed -- it told me nothing I didn't already know about this country.

"What do you American's think of that song to this day?"

I don't believe it made any significant impact, really. I mean, had it been Simply Red or INXS or whomever was a big deal at the time, that would be different, but for a rather under-the-radar band to produce a curiously slick-but-soulless pop ditty about the skewed values of the American aristocrat, it was pretty much dead-on-arrival.

It was no "51st State" by New Model Army, for example.

I remember OTG around 1989. Couldn't get over America. What do you American's think of that song to this day?

Pandemonium was a kinda Traveller/Rave period thing with some great moments (MY FAMILY IS THE VILLAGE AND THE VILLAGE IS THE LAW..) and finally, the true acoustics of the Kings chamber of the great pyramid of... Never heard of Roger Whittaker using that place. Probibly recorded in it to get out of the sun.

Surely compared to the pandemonium of Hosanna's, OTG stands as this sober, considered work of gentle strings (2nd song, whatsit called? My love of this land -aaah.) Yana, and some really minimal -with-a-punch songs. I took this album as their 'look we can be really good without a lot of mad guitars' work.

Then they went back to being rough and ready, and we ended up with KJ in 2003. Yippee. Then they all got too rough and ready and got stuck in that basement in Prague, as seen in that video.

When are they going to do a musical, like U2 did with Spider man? Theme suggestions please???
