This is somewhat tenuously connected to our discussion. Okay, so over the weekend, I spotted a picture of one of a current teen pop sensation (no, not Lady Gaga) wearing a t-shirt with the VOID insignia on it (Void, for those of you who don't know, were a crucial D.C. hardcore band in the early 90s). I was deeply incredulous that a whistleheaded pop irritant like _____ dared sully Void's good name with her vileness. Upon sharing this revelation with a colleague this morning, he answered: "Dude, check out her MySpace page ... she likes good music." I find it imposible to believe that a child capable of making such awful pop would be fan of decent music, but check out her list of "influences" and see if you can guess who I'm talking about:

With the exception of Yello (who I have no feelings for one way or the other), I own albums by all those artists.
I draw the line a Bananarama, though.

Ha! Nice one. I love Bananarama’s Cruel Summer! It’s on my iPod. Along with a ton more 80s pap. It’s fun.

I actually don't mind "Owner of a Lonely Heart," to be perfectly hones, but I'll forgive Yes a lot.
And I'll stand by the first two Duran Duran albums. Sue me.

Sammy Hagar is the worst rock musician I can't stand his singing and music. I wonder if his tequila is just as bad as his music? ;) Dirty Dancing and Footloose are God awful! I have never seen those movies and refuse to unless it is used in a confessional by Al Qaeda to get me to talk! HA! My wife has some good ones too of bad movie music.
Cheers,

Wow, that's some pretty awful stuff. Can that "Fast Times" melody from Sammy Hagar even qualify as a song? It's like a
bad parody of a bad parody of a bad hard rock song.
And don't forget the theme from the Patrick Swayze movie "Footloose"--on of the worst 2-note melodies ever.
My vote for some of the most annoying 80s songs:
She Blinded Me With Science
Tainted Love
THere are so many others...

Please, Alex. My Sharona is one of the worst rock songs ever written, and Tension is a pretty good one.
(We should make a list of the worst songs ever--starting w/Styx, Foriegner, Journey, etc)

"Compilcation" = One Way or Another
"Tension" = My Sharona
Any others?

Some Finnish band from c. 1990. I never realized how close this tune was to "One Way Or Another." I half-expected a mop-topped Jimmy Destri to be lurking in the background.
Maybe Blondie should sue? ;)
