Through the good graces of a shadowy figure of sonic benevolence, I've now
been able to hear all these tracks. For a start, the quibbles we've lodged
about compressed and muddy sound of the original downloads that were making
the rounds should be set to one side --- there is indeed more clarity in the
finished product. "End Games" and "In Excelsis" still sound like there are
multiple Geordies playing (or, rather, stacked tracks of Geordieness), but
Youth's bouncy, sproinging bass is very much represented on the finished
product. And it is good.

"In Excelsis" isn't the band's finest hour, but it continues to grow on me.
"End Games" is also a stormer.

But the REAL great stuff is "Kali Yuga" and "Ghosts of Ladbroke Grove" ---
showcasing sides of the band we've not heard in a long, long while.

Now if only I could put my hand to a damn CD of the stuff.

Ghost of Ladbroke Grove is a stormer!

I love the laid back groove, the dubbiness and the space. One of the best
Joke tracks in ages I think.

 

In Excelsis has a certain charm, some decent ideas on the production side
but I just want the CHANGE! It's not there. But expect it will be great live
when you lose yourself in it.

 

Endgame is superb - powerful. melodic. Great

 

Kali Yuga - Loving this too. reminds me of Aeon and Psyche. Lovely clanking
bass from Youth.

 

 

Spoke with Colesy who was with Youth today. Youth didn't even know it was
released this week and couldn't remember what tracks were on the E.P. Poor
old duffer!

Ghosts of Ladbroke Grove is excellent.

I like it all and how each track is quite different.

But the dubbiness of Ghosts is really refreshing

 

It seems to have that 'vibe' they used to have back, long absent ever since
bpf left.

I'm so pleased paul is back.
