I was delighted to see that the great Mutant Sounds blog posted the SPRATLEYS JAPS - "Pony" LP from 1999 a few weeks ago. SPRATLEYS JAPS were a CARDIACS offshoot for those not familiar, but this album is just as good as any CARDIACS record (in my opinion). Check out the song "Vine" - unbelievable musicianship - crazy time-signatures that I can't figure out for the life of me - just fucking brilliant!
Those in the U.K. may be familiar with all things CARDIACS, but here is the U.S.A. it is next to impossible to find any original CARDIACS records/CD's in the record stores. I think it may be a distribution thing. I found out about them when I moved to LA a while back and was walking by the old Vinyl Fetish record store on Melrose Ave. and out front they had a milk crate with a bunch of crap $1 dollar records. Flipping through I saw a worn but clean CARDIACS - "Big Ship" 12"ep and bought it based on the cover and the song titles. When I got it home and put it on I was floored! Amazing! Fan for life! Since then I have never seen any CARDIACS records and I live 2 blocks away from Amoeba Records in Hollywood and stop in 4 days a week - I always check for CARDIACS stuff, it's now turned into a mission to find something. Knowing Amoeba, I'm bound to find a CARDIACS record in there some day right? Till then..........
