If you think Killing Joke has been a soap opera at times, you haven't been following Jane's Addiction.

Eric Avery, bass player and co-songwriter of the classic '86 - '91 era has confirmed the handful of dates with Jane's Addiction in late February in Australia will be his last shows with the band. Apparantly, the big issue is frontman Perry Farrel's desire to continue touring behind the bands 20+ year old songs from 3 albums while Avery wanted to record new material. Tentative sessions a year ago with Trent Reznor were reportedly really combative with Reznor privately saying (they) just don't have their shit together as a band. It's unclear if the band will continue with a new bass player (they did a NYE show in a club in Aspen with "Strays" era bassist Chris Cheney) or call it a day.

The second option seems more and more likely as aside from Perry Farrell who's been posting misleading info on his twitter page ("only remarked that Jane's was getting together to write on Monday; but yeah, we wrote a ripper for all the he men to shout into the wild." - "they" did not get together on Monday) guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins have avoided talking about the subject at all even when directly asked.
