That song you linked to was truly nauseating. Even some of the mawkish tunes on "BTAS" are hard rock classics in comparison.

Happy Friday,

Now I really need to check the setlist for the L.A. gig before getting my tickets.

If it's for "bizniss" reasons, Night Time (tho' good) will appeal mainly to the highly nostalgic, but there are other albums better for nostalgia-pandering and that would do the band justice more than even NT.
NT even sounds dated (LLB, Ei8hties), Revelations, "not so much," and played live in its entirety, it has at least 6-7 songs which I like, and most fans will prolly like the entire album from the looks of it. It sounds timeless too (IMO), and is such a different "wall of sound" to new fans (compared to what's out there - Brighter Than A Thousand Fireflies, anyone?) that many who've never heard Revel. before will think it sounds new = good for sales, yesh? Yesh?

There are so many songs that KJ can get away with playing as "new-ish" material to gather a whole other fanbase among new listeners, it's a shame and shows lack of the original "fire" to so-regularly resort to safer options time after time...

These guys are KJ fans too:

This is interesting but a bit troubling as well.

It's taking away from what should be a tour promoting a new, hopefully excellent album. I think it's no coincidence this is being announced soon after it's been revealed the new album will not be released before or perhaps even 'til after the Spring North American tour's finished. I think it's pretty obvious most if not all of the upcoming shows will be "Night Time" showcases and I also wouldn't be surprised if another "classic" full album like KJ2003 isn't showcased at some other shows. They're not going to rehearse an entire album to play it at one small venue show in a secondary market.

Frankly, I personally do not like the current trend of older bands doing complete run-throughs of classic albums. It kills the spontaneity of a good part of a set (OoooOoo, "Love Like Blood" is coming next, then let's go take a piss break during "Kings and Queens" etc) and panders to nostalgia, something after the last year or so "reunion" showcase gigs and especially all the crowing about a new upcoming album overflowing with tracks just doesn't fit.

IMO, I'd guess there's two options - one is a set composed of *just* Night Time and new tracks with maybe one or two old burned out warhorse tunes, or next to no new tracks or Night Time and about 10 of the usual oldies. It all points to playing it safe and a lack of faith in the new material to carry the day.
