What is this "side-fill"?

Usually refers to large full range onstage monitor speakers located on 
either side of the stage pointed towards the center stage  to provide the 
band a more enveloping, direct and well balanced sound. This helps cancel 
out the often boomy venue speakers and slap back echo bands get onstage even 
in small clubs.  This allows all performers to hear a good rough mix of the 
whole band, while still allowing for individual mixes to be provided via 
wedge monitors on the floor usually in front of the singer and sometimes 
other musicians as well.
