"Every ten years or so, the United States needs to pick up some small
crappy little country and throw it against the wall, just to show the
world we mean business." - Michael Ledeen, National review ( a right
wing USA publication)

Bush declared he was launching war vs. Iraq based on Iraq's violating UN
sanctions (among any other thing he could think of). Yet the UN also
does not give latitude for individual countries, from Senegal to the
USA, to unilaterally decide for themselves when and where to enforce
individual UN rules. That must be decided jointly.
The US and UK violated int'l law, laws and treaties to which thy were
signatories. Period. No gray areas here. It's crystal clear. Crystal
clear like 2+2=4.
In reality, the US (and the UK) have acted as if they were the sole
actors responsible for enforcing violations, or whatever, as they
please, at their caprice, other countries' permission be damned - via UN
votes, or etc. The basis is: "The USA is an exceptional nation among all
nations in the world with an exceptional privilege to enforce violations
of law, or whatever it wants to, that no else has the right to do,
other's otes, resolutions, tec., be damned."
Imagine if Iran had invaded Florida after the 2000 US elections for
violating nt'l treaties about democratic principles. It sounds
preposterous. but with the US and itslackeys in the West, it's just
'common sense."
The justification for US war against Iraq, which has resulted in tens of
thousands of real, actual human deaths -not just email chatter fodder,
but actual humans with families - were predicated on specious, cynical,
selective, false, and unconscionable reasoning - the sot of flimsy
argumenttation that wouldnot be tolaretaed weree it to come from, say,
Syria. Blair followed suit and was indeed Bush's lap dog.
