Agreed, and I'd throw Pineapple Thief in that pile as well, although they both tend towards the swirly, shoegazy side of things.

A while ago we were knocking together a list of bands in a similar style to Porcupine Tree . . . I have two to add that I (unforgivably!) forgot about last time . . .

Amplifier and (the mighty) Oceansize . . . Oceansize in particular are sometimes very close to PT’s heavier moments
