[kj] NYC Reviews?

I was lucky to see them play Kings and Queens with Raven and Ted Parsons. It
was their first U.S. show (2003 tour) @ The Black Cat in D.C.

That was the first time I saw KJ live. The stage was low and the sound was
incredible. A very dark show as I recall. Freezing outside. Jaz and Raven
were both in war paint and apparently Jaz was ill (he cancelled the
Philadelphia gig a few nights after) so he seemed almost enraged while
performing (even cursing out loud during the opening with Communion) which
only intensified the delivery. But in hindsight, the mood appropriately fit
the 2003 LP. They had a great shirt for sale that had an image of Jaz from
the SEEING RED video. I wish I had picked that one up.

I couldn't agree more that there is an alarming lack of variety in the KJ
set list; especially with such an extensive and diverse catalogue.

See you on the 18th in LA!

Agreed. And I've been sick of Requium and Change for a long time--both great
songs, but better tucked away on that early single than live every tour...

It kind of pisses me off that they seem to completely disregard about 90% of
their back catalogue now. Nothing from Revelations, nothing from Fire
Dances, nothing from Brighter, nothing from Extremities (I never really
liked Extremities era, but Termite Mound was great live), nothing from OTG
(cough....), nothing from Democracy....

It would be good if they'd throw in a couple of curve-balls now and again
though, Darkness Before Dawn, Song and Dance, The Hum, Twilight of the
Mortals, Kings and Queens, Pandys, the full rap version of Stay One Jump
Ahead....

(ok strike that last one...)

Im not complaining, its great that they are still touring and are still
sounding so good live, but do they absolutely have to play
Wardance/Pssyche/Requiem et al. at every single gig? A bit of variety from
the back catalogue wouldn't go amis.

Good to hear that the gigs are going down well over the pond.

I'm abit more laid back when it comes to KJ set lists.....i always say it's
a gathering,and Killing Joke will be playing live ! i ain't complaining
ever.

it wasn't that long ago they played Darkness/Song and Dance/The Hum or even
Pandys. i wouldn't mind hearing Feast Of Blaze/Chapter III/Europe/The
Gathering......

BUT YOU HAVE TO LEAVE PSSYCHE ON THE SETLIST !!!!!!!!!!!

cheers!

They did do king and queens on pandemonium tour.
Devils advocate here.
They toured the shit out of extremities before and after the album came out.
So maybe they're sick of it.
I took would like stuff off of revelations.
Don't really care about wardance much anymore. Requiem still gives me
chills. I still live the guitar and keyboard riff. I'm glad they arenfinally
easing up on pandemonium. I liked 2003 so id prefer something other then
asteroid. Hell give me one song off of hosannas just because we never got it
in the states.

Oh well. Beggars can't be choosers. But beggars can be gatherers.

Couple of quick things. I talked to Youth backstage in Boston after
Pandemonium show, and he mentioned not being a big fan of Extremities. Can't
remember the specific reasons, but anyway. Also, I think I reading a
posting on this group recently where he mentioned having bad memories about
his emotional state around the time of Revelations, so they tend to not play
much from that. - CP
