[kj] Miraculous: Absolute Dissent in store.

Bradford Pomeroy bradfordpomeroy at gmail.com

I had been holding off even looking for AD in stores after having read the
many disappointing posts concerning countless setbacks and fragmented
releases (i.e. HCTS on ITunes). But yesterday, I decided to stop by Amoeba
Records in LA and sure enough, there was an abundance of copies (both
regular and deluxe editions). They were even faced out above the KJ music
slot. Not surprising as the folks at Amoeba have often maintained a vigorous
supply of KJ on hand (including all those gorgeous colored vinyl 180gram
re-issues).

So today I'm playing it through my Sony home theatre and it's simply
glorious. The Great Cull has really grown on me and I am hoping to see it
played live in the coming weeks. In Excelsis is such a great song to start
the morning off with.

Also, I ran across the clip of The Death and Resurrection Show that was
posted here. It was looking pretty good until it got to the part of Jaz
dressed as a priest and either shooting a machine gun (or having it shot at
him). It looked kind of like a bad rendition of the Scarface finale.

At first glance, ticket sales for L.A. don't look so hot either. I will
further
check it out this weekend. But they have finally named a band to open for
them
here: Lumerians.

They seem promising, sort of
Kasabian-ish, Echo&theBunnymen-ish, :

Kinda reminds me of M/A/R/R/S' "Anitina",

You would think by now their visas would be way ahead in order? Too many
bands are doing this lately from across the pond.

Just a guess - but might it be due to the closure of some UK airports
yesterday (& today), cos there's a little bit more snow than we are used to?

cheers

Alex in NYC, you know what you need to do...
Killing Joke

Fri., December 3, 8:00pm
Irving Plaza

Price: $42

By Jason Gross
Reunion skeptics should know that the original Killing Joke foursome
reconvenes tonight, along with a new keysman to augment them. They've just
done a new album with this line-up (not necessarily a plus), but This Is
Spinal Tap! fans might be disappointed that Jaz Coleman's new work for
orchestra and choir isn't scheduled to premiere on this tour. The rest of
their fans can enjoy their punk/metal hybrid again.

So, I've seen good KJ write-ups in Boston, Montreal, Chicago, Phoenix et.
al. and without exception, those write-ups have included a dated photo,
usually one featuring Raven, Benny and Reza from 2005. In addition, while
extolling the virtues of the new album, they all include a clip of the "LLB"
video, which, while a classic song, is hardly representative of the current
album.

I actually contacted the Chicago Onion/AV Club about the photo and video and
they very pleasantly responded that KJ's "publicist" had not provided
updated collateral, despite repeated requests and promises. The photo has
now been changed and the video removed, but come on.

Cooking Vinyl - Cooking Vinyl, fercrissakes, had their act together,
including an epk and press section on their website where anyone could grab
promo photos/videos.

Their US distributor is Fontana, but they enompass 100's of labels, so I
suspect KJ are not a priority.

Spinefarm!!!

The section starting around 8:25 where Jaz says he would be a suicide bomber
and then pretends to shoot the submachine gun is just silly and offensive. I
know that's his schtick, but I hope it gets removed from the final product.

Also, at about the same time they list all the evil corporations that Jaz
wants to destroy, including Wells Fargo Bank where my girlfriend works here
in Minneapolis. She finds this video hilarious. It is now making the rounds
at Wells Fargo corporate...
