[kj] ESS: the best single in decades?

I agree.
I have been playing it daily and it gives me goosebumps every time. I don't
know why.
But I like the return to more danceable tunes after the grunt and sludge of
recent albums - sometimes Geordie
works better with 'less is more'. And I love the fact that Jaz is singing
again. But mostly I like the fact they
can still come up with a musical leap like this, something I wasn't
expecting. The Killing Joke sound was
getting very predictable.
Thing is, when KJ have previously tried to write a pop hit, I've detested
those songs - Me Or You, A New Day etc -
but ESS is pure genius I think. Maybe they weren't trying to write a pop hit
this time? I don't think it is their
best single by a long shot - Follow the Leader, Empire Song, Eighties, LLB,
Millennium, etc etc - but
it is probably their best chance of having a hit in a very very long time.
I believe this could be HUGE in clubs, and consequently maybe radio, if of
course there is promotion and marketing
and all the rest. Which going by recent history, is a big IF.
