The Toasters where awesome

In 1990 the toasters and my band the jinns where new signees on the miller
genuine draft band network, during the induction ceremonies in Milwaukee
that year the jinns and the toasters struck up a great friendship and
partied through the weekend heartily. And throughout the next year we played
gigs together on the road in the US and more merriment ensued.miss those
guys.

Of that generation of ska, I quite liked some local NYC acts like the
Toasters, the Scofflaws and the endearingly ridiculous MephiSkapheles (yes,
Satanic Ska at last), but never really aquired a taste for the 'Bosstones.
Friend of mine used to do sound for them back in the day & had many a story
about Dickie. He's quite a drinker. Shocker.

I agree--that scene got flooded and old, and then mostly died out. At least
the Bosstones were heavier and probably the best songwriters of the bunch,
and their live shows were pretty punk.

No offense I used to like them.... but all that revival of Ska stuff got
boring in the mid 90's. Too many bands sounding a bit too happy and all the
same.

I'd reccomdend seeing the Mighty Mighy Bosstones though (good ska-punk and
very pro-audience)...Outstanding songs too.

How can you not like the LA punk scene? The LA punk scene was awesome! So
many great bands came up with so many different sounds.

This reminds me of when I saw the Lurkers...they didn't play..they were too
pissed and just stood there like twats.
I never really enjoyed the 2nd wave punk thing, nor the LA punk scene...the
latter was probably just cultural, the former because 99% of it was just
performing monkeys.

FEAR was a favorite growing up. They were erratic, incomprehensible,
unpredictable, shambolic, frequently idiotic and even more frequently a
powerful expression of everything I loved about music at the time.

Kind of like...KJ?

I loved how they were always teetering just on the edge of falling apart.
Growing up I would hear stories of the Replacements at Duffy's in Mpls (and
opening for KJ) or Kirby's in Moorhead, MN (next to Fargo, ND). The
consensus was always the same: either you saw the greatest rock'n'roll show
ever, or you saw a bunch of drunk fools play KISS covers for 20 minutes
before falling off the stage.

Can I ask what appealed to you about them?
Worse than the Expoited, to me.
