True, and those bands ruined a perfectly good punk scene too. ;)

Milo Goes To College is great, but it did inspire Blink 182 and countless
awful bouncy pop-punk bands...

Oh, I forgot--the Decendents (are they from around LA too?). Kind of like
the US version of the Buzzcocks, with about 1/1000 the recognition and
record sales (I just read that
"Harmony in my Head" was on the UK charts).

Lonely Boy is right--the fun, metallic roar of Flag, the Ramones goes
country of X, the bluesy grit of Tex and the Horseheads, the cynical wit and
skank beat of the Circle Jerks, the glam of Red Kross, the arty-classic
rock-funky intellectualism of the Minutemen, the punk and funk of the Big Boys,
the country alt-pop of Rand n File (and dozens of other bands I know
nothing about)...It's kind of like saying "I never really enjoyed the
Pistols--they weren't that tight live..."

How can you not like the LA punk scene? The LA punk scene was awesome! So
many great bands came up with so many different sounds.

This reminds me of when I saw the Lurkers...they didn't play..they were
too pissed and just stood there like twats.
I never really enjoyed the 2nd wave punk thing, nor the LA punk
scene...the latter was probably just cultural, the former because 99% of it was just
performing monkeys.

FEAR was a favorite growing up. They were erratic, incomprehensible,
unpredictable, shambolic, frequently idiotic and even more frequently a powerful
expression of everything I loved about music at the time.
Kind of like...KJ?
I loved how they were always teetering just on the edge of falling apart.
Growing up I would hear stories of the Replacements at Duffy's in Mpls (and
opening for KJ) or Kirby's in Moorhead, MN (next to Fargo, ND). The
consensus was always the same: either you saw the greatest rock'n'roll show ever,
or you saw a bunch of drunk fools play KISS covers for 20 minutes before
falling off the stage.

Can I ask what appealed to you about them?
Worse than the Expoited, to me.
